Since opening in 2014, our office is proud to provide free legal services on a case-by-case basis.
Over the past decade, we have regularly hosted free drop-in legal clinics. Members of the public may attend, and pose questions about the civil legal system. Although we do not address immigration issues, we offer guidance with respect to housing court, consumer protection, estate law, wage and hour laws, and other areas of the law. We also guide the visitors to free resources available through the City, State and private organizations.
Some other examples of our pro bono work:
2023-to date: As reported in Vanity Fair and the New York Daily News, representation of first responders and others affected by the collapse of the World Trade Center in campaign to obtain previously unreleased air quality and monitoring records, along with other information, from the City of New York.
2022: Defense of beloved small-town bicycle shop, sued for breach of contract and property damage. Case dismissed at close of the plaintiff’s case at trial.
2022: Guardianship proceeding (family court).
2021 and 2017: Secured medical insurance benefits and compensation for three victims of hit and run collisions in New York City through the State’s MVAIC program.
2020: Successful recovery for food service worker under Fair Labor Standards Act.
2019: Successful resolution of consumer claims brought against small business with online store.
2019 and 2014: Representation of three individuals in criminal court. Charges dismissed in two cases; probation secured in the third.
2014: Successful proceeding to compel owner of building contaminated with lead and asbestos from a gas line explosion to address the hazards.
